Monocouche render (also known as coloured through render, scraped finish render, or one coat render), is a decorative external surface finish applied to the exterior of buildings to provide decoration, but also a weather protection.
The word ‘monocouche’ comes from the French language. ‘Mono’, meaning single, and ‘couche’, meaning coat or layer. Although, in most cases when used in renovation projects it does require a base coat, it is applied in one coat to newly built high density blockworks. Monocouche renders are contemporary one layer renders that can be hand or machine applied. These are colour pigmented throughout, negating the need for painting on application. This provides a low maintenance, weather resistant, hard wearing and attractive finish to a large range of external brick and blockwork properties.
Silicone and Acrylic Render
Silicone and Acrylic render (also known as thin coat render, or top coat), is predominantly used over an External Wall Insulation System, but not solely in this process. ‘Thin coat’ can also be applied to solid walls as well as light weight construction, as long as the substrate has been fully prepared with an appropriate base coat and reinforcing mesh.
